Jane Innis Johnston was born 8 December 1875 in Iowa. She was the daughter of Elizabeth (Eliza) Bailie and Frank Johnston. Jane was the second of six children. Jane’s name iwas given to honor her grandmother, Jane Innis.
Frank Johnston was born 22 Feb 1851 in Northern Ireland. The specific location is unknown. Little is know about Frank prior to his arrival in the United States in 1870-72. Family lore indictes that he left IReland follwing the death of both of his parents. He came to the US with his brother David Johnston. Frank’s death certificate is the only known information about his parents, who are listed as V. Johnston and Mary Cleland. Frank had a duaghter Mayme, with the middle name of Cleland, likely comfirming the name of Frank’s mother.
Elizabeth Bailie was born 4 April 1856 in Greyabbey, County Down, Ireland. She came to the US in about 1866 with her parents Henry McKinley Bailie and Jane Innis. Elizabeth was the oldest of six children. The Bailie family settled in Chicago, Illinois.
