Millard Finley was born in Logan County, West Virginia the third of seven children of Ky FInley and his wife Tennie Thornhill.
Ky Finley was born in about 1876 in West Virginia with the given name Hezekiah, but he went by Kie or Ky all his life. His parents, Samul Finley and Mary Ann Michaels married and had three children in Pike County, Kentucky. Sometime between 1865 and 1870 the family moved to Logan County, West Virginia, on the other side of the Tug Fork River.
Tennie (Tennessee) Thornhill was born in 1882 in Wayne County, West Virginia to parents William Thornhill and Sarah J Miller. She married Ky Finley in 1901 in Mingo County, West Virginia.
