More About Me

Hi, my name is Peggy Jude and I am a professional genealogist. I’ve been conducting genealogical research since I was 15 years old. I’m also a bit of a techno geek and love all things technology. Those two passions combine into my current business where I focus on teaching in the areas of genetic genealogy and technology for genealogy

I am based on the West Coast of Florida, where I spend most of the year, but I do spend summers in the Chicagoland area. My roots are in the midwest of the country where my ancestors ended up in Illinois, Missouri and Iowa, migrating from Sweden, Scotland and Ireland, with stops in Newfoundland, Virginia and Kentucky.

My Genealogy Expertise

My research journey stated with interviewing older relatives while still a teenager. I progressed to spending time in libraries and NARA archives scrolling through microfilm. After graduation I moved to the Minneapolis, Minnesota area where I worked for nine years. During my time there I served on the Board of the Minnesota Genealogical Society. Following that I lived for long periods in the Chicagoland area, and in New Jersey. We finally ended up on the west coast of Florida

Fast forward and i have been immersed in my professional genealogical business with a focus on teaching. I completed the ProGen program, am a member of the Association of Professional Genealogists, the Genealogical Speakers Guild. I have attended IGHR, SLIG and GRIP insititutes on multiple years and I am now an instructor in the DNA Foundations Course at IGHR. I teach multle times a month on DNA, Technology and general Genealogy topics. I am a board memeber and Vice President of the Manatee Genealogical Society. I lead the DNA Special Interest Group and the Technology Specila Interest Group, for the society, where I teach a session each month.

My Personal Journey

I grew up in Ossining, New York, in the suburbs north of New York City. I am the only easterner in my family! After graduating from high school I attended Iowa State University where I received a B.S. in Zoology. Iowas State is a big family school, where my brother, sister-inlaw and uncle graduated from. My mother and father actually met in Ames, Iowa during World War II while attending programs there. During my time in Iowa I visited the cities and courthouses and cemeteries where my Iowa ancestors spent their lives. After graduating I attended the University of Michigan where I received my M.B.A.
